I have heard it said that a sign of real leadership is to offer folks vision even in the face of terrible setbacks. Well, it seems to me that Hilary Clinton offered such leadership in her concession speech. I take two things from it:
There will be setbacks: keep going and be optimistic
“And so we need – we need you to keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives. To all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me, I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion.
Now, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will – and hopefully sooner than we might think right now.”
.. “Fighting for what is right is worth it”.
Instead of being pacified by the news, let’s get on with making a better world for women and girls, let’s keep going in ways small and large and encouraging one another.
Women and girls need and deserve our support
“And to all of the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.”
In solidarity, we have come a long way, and we will keep up the struggle for women and girls everywhere.
